How to Elope in Lake Tahoe:

If you’re dreaming of clear water, mountains, and a wedding day that actually feels like you, eloping in Lake Tahoe might be for you. Lake Tahoe is one of those places that feels unreal. From the clear water, pine forests, gorgeous beaches, Lake Tahoe is the perfect location to elope.

Why Couples Choose to Elope in Lake Tahoe:

There are so many reasons to elope in Lake Tahoe, but most couples decide to elope in Lake Tahoe for one main reason. They want epic scenery without a massive guest list, a meaningful experience without pressure, and a wedding day that feels intentional. Lake Tahoe offers unreal lake views, four gorgeous seasons, easy travel from major airports, a mix of adventure and comfort, and private or semi private ceremony options. You can exchange your vows at sunrise on a quiet beach, hike to a mountain overlook, rent a lakefront cabin, or celebrate with an intimate dinner. Lake Tahoe gives you a chance to choose what your priorities are.

Pros and Cons of Eloping in Lake Tahoe:

Understanding the pros and cons of eloping helps you decide if Lake Tahoe is the right fit for you.

Pros:

-Stunning scenery without crazy long hikes

-More flexible and affordable than traditional weddings

-Intentional timelines

-More personal experience

-Less stress and pressure

Cons:

-Weather can change quickly

-Some ceremony spots will require a permit

-Popular locations can get crowded

-Accessibility can vary depending on the location

With the right planning and timing, these cons can also have pretty easy solutions.

Best Elopement Locations in Lake Tahoe:

Choosing your ceremony spot is one of the most exciting, but also stressful parts of planning your elopement. Here are some of my favorite elopement locations in Lake Tahoe:

-Emerald Bay State Park

-Sand Harbor

-Kings Beach

-Donner Lake

-Logan Shoals Vista

-Baldwin Beach

-Monkey Rock

-Zephyr Cove

How to Legally Get Married in Lake Tahoe:

Your marriage license will need to be obtained in the stat your ceremony will be. Lake Tahoe lays on the border of California and Nevada, so you will have to make sure you are obtaining it in the right state. The closest offices to Lake Tahoe are El Dorado County or Douglas County. You can apply online through this link for California and this link for Nevada. For California, you will still have to make an appointment to appear in person to pick up your marriage license as well. Things you’ll need to bring include your id and cash for the marriage license fee. This marriage license expires after 90 days and you can get married the same day. For Nevada, they issue marriage licenses by mail, so you don’t need to go in person. Things you’ll need to mail include a copy of both your id’s and a check for $34. The marriage license expires after a year and there’s no waiting period.

How Much Do Elopements Cost in California?

A common question when planning an elopement is how much do elopements cost in California. Costs of an elopement varies on your priorities, but typical Lake Tahoe elopements include a photographer, marriage license and permit, lodging, florals, officiant, and intimate dinner or reception.
