Turn Your Couples Session Into a Date Night

My favorite way to make a couples session or engagement session feel unique is to turn it into a date night. Instead of just showing up to a park for golden hour, how about we actually do something fun together! This is the best way because it makes the photos feel real and natural.

Think about what you two actually love doing together or would want to do together! Maybe that’s grabbing coffee and exploring a book store or record store, going to an arcade bar, going to your favorite diner, getting ice cream, going axe throwing, having a picnic by the beach, bike riding, hanging out by the pool, hitting up your local farmers market, baking at home together, having brunch together at home while hanging out with your dog, or even doing a fun summer activity in your backyard. Whatever it is, I’m here to help build your dream couples session around it.

When couples are doing things they enjoy, the whole couples session or engagement session changes into a more relaxed and intentional session and the couples photos end up looking nothing like everyone else. Some of my favorite sessions have been cribbage and reading together by the lake, an arcade session, a couples bike session, intimate in home session, and a picnic by the beach couples photoshoot. The best part is that it actually doubles as your date night and quality time together, so why not make your couples shoot or engagement shoot something you could have done together anyways!

Choose a Themed Session With Props

Another way to make your couples session feel unique is to pick a theme and lean into it with props. Pick a vibe like a cozy picnic set up, a drive in theater movie, a garden house photoshoot, romantic camping shoot, fun water balloon fight, or even an apple picking shoot. Props are honestly so underrated when it comes to couples photography or engagement photography. Props give you something to interact with naturally no matter the location which makes posing and prompts feel way less awkward. They also add so much personality to your photoshoot. Some of my favorite props I suggest to my couples are fujifilm cameras, wicker basket, games or books, blankets, favorite drinks, or even rollerblades or bikes! If you need help figuring out what props fit your vibe, we can walk through that during the planning process.

Book An Outdoor Adventure Together

This doesn’t have to be anything crazy like hiking a mountain or going skydiving. This could look like skiing, apple picking, renting bikes, going on a hay ride at a pumpkin patch, booking the rotunda at the Milwaukee Public Library, going on a wine tour, renting kayaks, or even just exploring your local botanical gardens together! Just with me as your couples photographer there to capture it all so you get to have dreamy date night couples photos to hang all over your house.
